What does the Title say?

A well-written TITLE tag is essential for SEO. A title or headline is the first thing that anyone finds about a page, on search engine page results.

One should include keywords relevant to the company’s products and services at the beginning of the title tag. Character limits for the title differ for different search engines.

Try to keep the title tag short (64 characters or less), which should be EASY TO UNDERSTAND. A title tag helps the search engine to determine the webpage content, and a well-written title will help one’s website position better on search engine page results.

Besides, with zillions of websites around with similar products/services, the Internet users look for information, relevant to their searches. Hence, the title should not confuse readers.

Relevance is the objective of Google

Unlike before, today the search-engine algorithms are not easy to interpret.

Earlier people used to include keywords here and there on the web page, and that helped with search engines, then. Today, the situation has changed. The search engine giant Google no longer tolerates keyword spamming by any means, to improve web-page ranking.

Today, the mantra for online success is: relevance and quality. The search algorithms of Google evaluate websites on relevance of information. Whether title, or inward links, the algorithm assesses everything to determine the value of the website/page.

Daily millions of people use Google for different searches and queries. More people use Google than any other search engine (Bing, Yahoo, Ask and AOL). Thus, for targeted web-traffic, one should never ignore Google guidelines.

For high conversion rate, the landing page should have relevant and high quality information. Please assess the landing page of your website. Is it relevant for the Internet users?

Search Engine Friendly URLS

Poorly designed websites can never help anybody, in this era of Internet.

One should provide enough importance to the design of the URL. Search engine friendly URLs play a vital role in web-page ranking as a search engine spider may overlook or fail to index a badly-designed URL.

404 Page Not Found error message is quite common, but not every user may grasp the technical jargon. Hence, the site should either have a search box, or a link to the home page, or a site-map to help out the user, for not getting lost anywhere.

During a 404 page error, never automatically redirect the Internet user to any other page, to avoid confusion.

SEO white hat techniques

What about refining search terms, with two-to-five-words in a phrase? Confused? We talk about long tail keywords for the SEO campaign.

Long tail (highly specific) keywords draw less but QUALITY traffic than generic keywords, which draw high but not always quality web traffic.

For people that think about keyword stuffing - a method for search engine ranking and page visibility should note that it is no longer a successful tactic, and an unethical practice.

Practice ethical SEO methods only, and avoid unnecessarily stuffing keywords or hiding text from the visitors, by making it invisible or setting in an image background.

Work on RIGHT keywords (most effective ones) related to the product/service one offers, to engage the customers, for long.
